Abstract

Os artigos da Ceres Moraes e Lorena Soler têm em comum a preocupação com a ditadura de Stroessner. Este é certamente um tema de grande interesse não apenas pelas suas conotações políticas – além de ser uma das mais sanguinárias ditaduras dos tempos modernos –, mas pela sua longevidade. Como a Professora Soler aponta, é um desafio às ciências políticas e à sociologia a explicação deste fenômeno . As autoras abordam a problemática desde ângulos diferentes, mas não antagônicos. Lorena Soler destaca em seu artigo, que a guerra contra a tríplice aliança e as condições políticas anteriores ao conflito propiciaram um conjunto de representações que foram eficazmente utilizadas para legitimar a ditadura de Stroessner. Este reservatório de representações foi mobilizado quando “foi evidente a impossibilidade de instaurar um regime político liberal”. Estas representações, também, “evidenciaram as limitações do regime político e econômico [resultante] da Guerra Grande”. Já Ceres Moraes concentra sua atenção no peso que a interferência dos EUA e o Brasil tiveram na conformação e consolidação da ditadura. Decorrente dos interesses regionais dos Estados Unidos no marco da Guerra Fria e da disputa geopolítica do Estado brasileiro pela hegemonia no Prata, consagrou-se no Estado paraguaio uma orientação decididamente anticomunista e a sua política pendular inclinou-se para o lado do Brasil, desde a década de 1940, e se consolidou durante a ditadura de Alfredo Stroessner.
