Oskar Walzel et le formalisme russe : les éclairages croisés sur les formalismes européens

Abstract

La figure de Walzel a divisé le milieu formaliste en Russie et a conduit finalement à une sécession au sein de celui-ci. Néanmoins, la part de Walzel au sein du courant formaliste russe est en réalité plus complexe et le rejet de ses positions ne signifie pas l’absence de tout dialogue conceptuel avec le « vrai » formalisme. Nous essayons de montrer certaines pistes interprétatives permettant d’ébaucher des croisements ou des points de contact entre la pensée de Walzel et celle du cercle de l’OPOIAZ. Notre analyse portera sur les relations conceptuelles entre les théories esthétiques et littéraires d’Oskar Walzel et celles du formalisme russe. Cette lecture comparée de deux corpus conceptuels : celui du « formalisme russe » et celui du « formalisme germanique » a pour but d’introduire la perspective walzelienne définissable comme un éclairage croisé sur les formalismes européens. La point de départ est l’idée que le courant formaliste européen présente une unité constitutive et que c’est justement la continuité de son programme qui autorise un travail de comparaison.
