Jean Jacques Lequeu (1757-1826), architecte dessinateur ignore de ses contemporains, doit sa redecouverte, au milieu du xxe siecle, a son œuvre graphique. Depose un an avant sa mort a la Bibliotheque nationale, cet ensemble de dessins comprend, avec quelques projets de construction ou de decor, des productions autonomes : methodes de dessin, architectures imaginaires ou fantastiques, mais aussi portraits, nus, etudes anatomiques et sexuelles. Aujourd’hui, a l’occasion de la premiere exposition qui lui est consacree, une revision historiographique s’impose, a la lumiere d’une connaissance desormais plus ample et plus fine de cette periode de l’histoire de l’architecture et des arts. Tour a tour considere comme moderne, surrealiste avant la lettre, postmoderne et malade mental, Lequeu apparait des lors comme un cas propice pour penser les approches anachroniques, en revenant sur la deconcertante serie des interpretations dont il a fait l’objet.
