Les initiatives recentes de cohabitat qui se developpent en France et en Italie se caracterisent par la mise en place d’un processus de conception collectif, volontaire et participatif de leur cadre de vie par les futurs habitants. Cet article se propose d’explorer les dynamiques et les logiques qui ponctuent le passage complexe d’un « espace reve » teinte d’utopie a l’experience concrete de l’elaboration d’un projet collectif d’habitat. Ces initiatives originales posent la question de la place de l’architecte et des habitants tout au long du parcours. De plus, elles offrent un terrain d’observation privilegie de l’experimentation de nouveaux equilibres et des nouvelles methodologies dans la pratique de la conception architecturale.
