Mobilités surveillées : rôles et responsabilités des développeurs d’applications smartphone

Abstract

Cet article avance que les applications géolocalisées pour smartphone constituent d’utiles ressources dans un processus de mobilité, mais qu’elles présentent également certains risques pour l’utilisateur. En recourant à ce service, l’utilisateur court le risque d’exposer ses données personnelles à des tiers, ainsi que d’être profilé et trié sans négociation possible par le logiciel. Le présent article aborde cette problématique au travers du regard d’acteurs centraux dans la production de ces logiciels : les développeurs d’applications mobiles. Le discours de ces acteurs, recueilli lors d’une série d’entretiens semi-directifs, nous permet d’explorer le rôle et les responsabilités de ces « experts » face aux risques que présentent leurs logiciels. L’article souligne l’autorité prégnante que détiennent ces acteurs dans la gestion de nos quotidiennetés, médiatisant nos relations à l’espace et à la mobilité au travers de leurs logiciels. L’autorité des développeurs s’ancre dans un savoir-faire spécifique, leur permettant d’agir à la fois sur le fonctionnement, les risques et les régulations des logiciels. Nos résultats soulignent toutefois l’interaction des développeurs avec d’autres sources d’autorité, constituant de complexes associations d’acteurs présidant à la production d’applications mobiles.
