Abstract

L’ère Heisei définit une époque appelée les « trois décennies perdues » où la place du Japon dans le monde n’a cessé de décliner. Le passage du scrap and build (démolition-construction) à la réhabilitation, comme la succession des catastrophes, notamment le grand séisme de la côte Pacifique du Tōhoku, ont ébranlé les fondations mêmes du monde architectural japonais où le monopole grandissant des super zenekon ne laisse plus de place aux architectes pourtant actifs à l’international. Par ailleurs, des community architects, dont le travail se base sur le territoire local, ont émergé sans s’établir vraiment. Le concept d’« architecte », né à l’ère Meiji, perd de son autorité pendant cette période, diffractant plutôt le portrait de l’architecte idéal.
