Abstract

María de Todos los Ángeles est mordue par un chien au marché. Á sa naissance, elle avait été consacrée au Christ et à Olokun, et comme sa vie était en danger, sa mère spirituelle avait fait la promesse aux saints yoruba de ne pas lui couper les cheveux jusqu’au jour de son mariage. Dans le roman, on remarque qu’une grande importance est accordée au corps humain ou à certaines de ses parties. Nous partirons du symbolisme du corps autour duquel s’établissent les relations entre les différents personnages, afin de montrer les réactions des classes sociales et la position de l’Église face aux faits. Nous observerons la déformation de certains corps et l’exaltation de la beauté des autres. Nous aborderons enfin le triomphe de l’amour corporel sur le spirituel.

María de Todos los Ángeles es mordida por un perro en el mercado. Al nacer había sido consagrada a Cristo y a Olokun y como su vida estaba en peligro, su madre espiritual había prometido a los santos yoruba no cortarle el cabello hasta el día de su matrimonio. En la novela observamos que se le otorga una gran importancia al cuerpo humano o a alguna de sus partes. Partiremos del simbolismo del cuerpo, alrededor del cual se establecen las relaciones entre los diferentes personajes, con el fin de desvelar las reacciones de las clases sociales y la posición de la Iglesia frente a los hechos. Observaremos la deformación de algunos cuerpos y la exaltación de la belleza de otros. Por último, nos detendremos en el triunfo del amor corporal sobre el espiritual.
