L’article de Tristan Coignard reconstitue l’évolution de la place qu’occupe Christoph Martin Wieland (1733-1813) dans le canon littéraire allemand et européen, depuis la fin du XVIIIe jusqu’au XXe siècle. L’étude prend en compte à la fois la réception en Allemagne et les lectures françaises de son œuvre. La notion d’« auteur cosmopolite » permet tout particulièrement de mettre en évidence ce qui contribue à faire de Wieland un « classique paradoxal ».
