The town of Guanajuato, capital of the Mexican state of the same name, has been part of the list of UNESCO’s world heritage since 1988. This label constitutes an invaluable tool for economic development. Nevertheless, this article wants to show how another type of heritage, quite different from the reasons for which the city was included in the prestigious list, produces and successfully diffuses an image of the city that goes beyond colonial architecture.
