Abstract

La garde-robe de l’impératrice Isabelle de Portugal (1526-1539) - Avec Isabelle de Portugal, épouse de l’empereur Charles Quint, la monarchie espagnole retrouve la figure institutionnelle de la reine. La nouvelle visibilité de la souveraine, régente en l’absence de son mari, se traduit par un déploiement de luxe sur sa personne. Les sources documentaires attestent l’importance et la variété de sa garde-robe, outil fondamental de la manifestation du pouvoir impérial. Le vestiaire de l’impératrice suit la rapide évolution de la mode. Au goût flamand a succédé celui venu d’Italie, renforcé par les commandes de riches tissus à Venise, Florence, etc. Les origines d’Isabelle peuvent expliquer le maintien de tenues « à la portugaise » et le port de chemises en soie exotiques provenant de l’Inde. Un atelier de « haute couture », dirigé par son couturier, fait partie de la Maison de l’impératrice et l’accompagne lors de ses déplacements.
