Abstract

L'industrialisation de l'agriculture a entraîné les agriculteurs du monde entier dans le tourbillon d'un système alimentaire mondial commercialise, ce qui a provoqué le déclin massif de l’agriculture traditionnelle à petite échelle et l’appauvrissement de la diversité biologique, organique et durable. Elle a plutôt favorisé la culture mécanisée sur de grandes terres, la monoculture, l'utilisation de méthodes de culture agressive et accrue la dépendance insoutenable vis-à-vis d’apports extérieurs. Il existe de nombreuses controverses autour de ces deux paradigmes et leur recours dans l'avenir. Cet article se concentre spécifiquement sur les tensions entre l'appropriation de l'offre en semences dans le monde et le mouvement pour la lutte contre la souveraineté des semences, ce dernier constituent une dimension clé du débat. Il fait valoir que la mise en œuvre d'une réforme de la deuxième génération, révolution verte basée sur des semences et des techniques liées aux OGM, va exposer les agriculteurs à toujours plus de risques et d’impuissance, alors que l'utilisation prudente de l'open source des semences hybrides pourrait, en réalité, accroître la souveraineté alimentaire des agriculteurs traditionnels.
