Contrariamente a lo deseado por algunos de los pensadores de la Organizacion Nacional -quienes habrian preferido a la de origen anglosajon- el grueso de la inmigracion recibida por la Argentina provino del sur de Europa: la proporcion conjunta de italianos y espanoles represento alrededor del ochenta por ciento del total de los ingresados al pais entre 1860 y 1930.
