Abstract

L’élection d’un Indien – Evo Morales Ayma – à la présidence de la Bolivie (décembre 2005), bouleverse l’histoire politique de ce pays andin. Evo Morales, à la fois cocalero, aymara, paysan, indien, socialiste, révolutionnaire devient le symbole de la rupture avec l’ordre imposé, en 1825, par les fondateurs de la République, où une minorité blanche concentre tant le pouvoir politique que le pouvoir économique et où la majorité indienne et métissée est exclue. Les origines ethniques et sociales et le charisme personnel du dirigeant politique, une fois élu, transforment le personnage en un symbole, une icône, un mythe relayé par les médias (cinéma, télévision, radio, presse, Internet). Nous essaierons, dans une première partie, de synthétiser les raisons politiques et sociales qui ont amené Evo Morales à incarner la rupture. Nous analyserons de quelles façons s’articulent les relations entre le parti de gouvernement (le MAS) et les mouvements sociaux qui sont autant de « marqueurs » du leadership d’Evo Morales que nous qualifions, dans une seconde partie, de « charisme situationnel ». Enfin, à travers le cinéma, lieu – avec les médias – aujourd’hui des constructions sociales, nous montrerons comment le personnage d’Evo Morales se transforme en une icône et en l’ordonnateur d’un nouvel imaginaire social et politique
