Este artigo pretende explorar algumas hipóteses que dizem respeito à dinâmica de crescimento e fragmentação de certos clãs tukano (alto Rio Negro, Brasil), sobretudo aqueles que são tomados nativamente como “médios”. Tomando como base o entrelaçamento entre dois aspectos de sua organização social, o sistema de casamento (preferencialmente FZD) e a hierarquia, serão discutidos, através de elementos já levantados pela literatura e de sugestões nativas, movimentos de “torção” de regras e de contrapesos a estas. Como resultado, a aposta aqui vai na direção de uma dialética entre expansão e contração do regime de alianças regional.
