Contemporary democracies are undergoing a profound redefinition of the relationship between self and society. The advent of the algorithmic society marks a crisis in the narrative function of human beings: while historically storytelling enabled the construction of a common public realm, the current digital environment challenges its very nature. The digitalization of reality is transforming human emotions and interactions into quantifiable data. In this scenario, predictive algorithms constitute a social architecture whose main effects are the isolation of individuals and their progressive political deactivation. Virtual interaction becomes a surrogate for real action, inhibiting genuine political praxis in favour of a narcissistic exhibition of the self.
