The essay explores the relations of the European powers, in particular of France, with the colonies during the period of the realisation of the European Economic Community. In this perspective the analysis of the constitutional transformations of France in 1946 and in 1958 highlights the French attempts of maintaining the unity of the colonial empire. The project of so-called “Eurafrica”, that is the idea of the complementarity of Europe and Africa, has been the ideology that has grounded the constitution of the EEC from a neo-colonial perspective.
