Tierquälerei bei Wilhelm Busch

Abstract

Dans les histoires illustrées mondialement connues de Wilhelm Busch (1832-1908), des animaux sont torturés à mort, mutilés, noyés, bâillonnés, brûlés et abattus. Ils sont généralement représentés comme méchants et fourbes, et leur mise à mort atroce est censée produire un effet comique particulier. Pendant plusieurs siècles, Wilhelm Busch a fait rire des générations d’enfants avec ces histoires illustrées de maltraitance animale. Mais du point de vue actuel, les plaisanteries et les images cruelles envers les animaux dans les histoires de Busch sont difficilement défendables sur le plan éthique. Comment classer éthiquement cette joie enfantine à infliger des souffrances, et comment traiter aujourd’hui, d’un point de vue éthique, la littérature grotesque qui est entrée dans le canon littéraire ? Ces questions seront abordées à partir de différentes approches du grotesque littéraire et de la recherche sur l’émotion qui consiste à se réjouir du malheur d’autrui.
