L’imaginaire patrimonial

Abstract

Malgré leur apparent cousinage, patrimoine culturel et imaginaire social ont rarement été pensés dans leurs relations dialogiques. Cet ouvrage propose de réfléchir à ce que l’imaginaire permet de comprendre du patrimoine, mais aussi comment le patrimoine apporte à l’imaginaire un support matériel et anthropologique. Une ligne directrice a été suivie entre histoire, philosophie et sciences sociales : c’est par les images, iconographiques et mentales, que le lien entre patrimoine et imaginaire peut être mieux compris. Images et récits travaillent nos émotions, singulièrement la nostalgie, c’est-à-dire le sentiment de l’absence de ce qui a été. Ils instituent le patrimoine en bien collectif, particulièrement quand ils s’expriment dans des Figures particulières – stéréotypes, emblèmes et idées images. S’appuyant sur des sources ethnographiques et des travaux d’historiens, l’ouvrage montre comment la gentrification, l’attachement à son quartier ou le patriotisme de ville se nourrissent à cet imaginaire patrimonial. C’est aussi l’urbanité, c’est-à-dire ce qui fait que la ville est quelque chose de plus que l’agrégat de bâtiments et d’espaces de circulation, qui y puise ses singularités.
