Prisotnost irske književnosti v evropski umetnosti devetnajstega stoletja doslej se ni bila ustrezno raziskana. Njeno prisotnost vzorcno predstavlja Schumannova uglasbitev pesmi Lalla Rookh (Das Paradies und die Peri, 1843) Thomasa Moora, ki jo je potrebno razumeti loceno od zgodnejsih poskusov skladateljev, kot je bil Beethoven, ki je tradicionalne irske melodije preprosto priredil za glas in klavir.
