This interdisciplinary monograph presents Rihemberk Castle as one of the most important and striking castle architectures in the northern Primorska region and beyond. It provides information on the first settlement of the area in the Late Bronze Age and discusses the historical circumstances of the castle's construction in the Middle Ages under the first owners, the Lords of Reifenberg. Most of the contributions deal with the Lanthieri (after 1910 Levetzow-Lantieri) family, which, as owners of the castle in the modern period until 1947, had a significant influence not only on the development of the castle and its furnishings, but also on the life of Branik and the wider Gorizia region. The most important historical events connected with the castle, the artistic and cultural life of the castle, the involvement of its former inhabitants in the local community, its historical memory and the efforts to renovate and revive the castle, including its current winged inhabitants - the bats - are presented in detail. The in-depth contributions are also enriched by high-quality pictorial material, much of it from foreign and private archives.
