Treatment of Intermittent Exotropia

Abstract

EXCERPT

Nelson: We will be discussing the treatment for intermittent exotropia. The first patient is a 3-year-old child whose parents noticed that one eye was drifting out intermittently for approximately 1 year. Dr. Forbes, what would be some of the important questions in the history to ask the parents?

Forbes: I would want to know a little bit more about the child in terms of the eye exam and the visual acuity. Important questions would be: What is the degree of drifting? At what time of day does it occur? Is it happening more when he is tired? Is he squinting? Does he rub his eye? Can he move his eyes back and forth fully?
