Abstract

Disposant d’une connaissance exceptionnelle de l’histoire des idées philosophiques et politiques, Carl Schmitt la met au service de projets théoriques qui ne sont pas toujours explicitement formulés, ce qui fait de lui un historien très politique des idées politiques. L’article s’efforce de le montrer sur trois exemples : l’analyse de la dictature, celle des rapports entre libéralisme, parlementarisme et démocratie, et enfin la question de la « théologie politique », une notion qui demeure attachée à son nom. Faire de l’histoire des idées, c’est toujours pour Carl Schmitt se choisir des adversaires.
