Abstract

Aspects de la modalité et de la modulation dans la musique de Sibelius Cet article discute comment, dans certaines œuvres de Sibelius, les caractéristiques modales apparaissent liées à des progressions tonales d’une tonalité à une autre, ou peuvent être comprises parfois comme donnant une impulsion ou articulant le changement de tonalité. Tous les exemples examinés appartiennent à des œuvres composées entre 1906 et 1926. Même si l’arrière-plan et le contexte de la conférence de Sibelius de 1896 ainsi que la question complexe de son utilisation de la modalité requièrent certainement une étude plus approfondie, il apparaît que les arguments présentés dans la conférence de 1896 peuvent être compris comme annonçant l’évolution stylistique du compositeur. Plutôt qu’une analyse des caractéristiques stylistiques de sa musique dans les années 1890, ils ont peut-être anticipé sur son orientation future et sur des impulsions qui auraient une influence durable sur sa musique jusqu’à ses derniers chefs d’œuvre.
