Abstract

L’eclipse que connaissent les « intellectuels catholiques » depuis les annees 1970 a deja largement ete commentee et etudiee sans que les uns et les autres ne mettent toujours les memes contenus derriere l’expression. Nous proposons ici, de maniere inductive, de definir les « intellectuels catholiques » comme des universitaires de confession catholique assumant publiquement des liens entre leur activite professionnelle et leur foi. Apres une etude des symptomes de leur crise, l’auteur synthetise les pistes interpretatives deja formulees et en propose de nouvelles, a la lumiere de sa frequentation des archives de Rene Remond et de sa reflexion sur le rapport entre l’engagement chretien et les sciences humaines et sociales.
