Abstract

L’auteure part d’une définition des mots douleur et souffrance pour s’interroger sur l’articulation entre ces deux vécus. Elle pose les bases de la physiologie de la douleur, avec ses circuits de transmission rapide et lent, pour montrer toute la subjectivité de l’expérience douloureuse. La spécificité du vécu douloureux du jeune enfant éclaire sur les séquelles psychiques de telles expériences. La douleur, physiquement désagréable et psychiquement éprouvante, peut devenir souffrance si elle submerge les capacités de défense narcissique du sujet, et si elle ne peut prendre sens dans son histoire et celle de sa famille.
