La triple confusion de l'utopie

Abstract

Résumé Le problème avec l’utopie est qu’elle se prête à une forme d’idolâtrie qui engendre une confusion de l’ordre des valeurs recherchées avec l’événement historique. Le rêve, en cherchant à tout prix à se réaliser ici et maintenant, se transforme en cauchemar. La confusion est triple : confusion de l’objectif utopique envisagé et non encore réalisé avec la situation terminale qui résulte d’une action ; confusion de la représentation imaginaire d’un ordre de valeurs avec une situation sociale particulière ; confusion enfin de la règle de conduite avec un mandat pour la réalisation, envers et contre tout, de la société idéale. Ainsi devenue idéologie, l’utopie donne lieu à une terrifiante manière de penser : la justification du pouvoir absolu en vue du bien suprême.
