Abstract

Tres developpe dans le transport aerien, le low cost se diffuse aujourd'hui vers de nouveaux secteurs economiques : distribution alimentaire et non alimentaire, automobile, banque, assurance, coiffure, hotellerie, telephonie mobile, etc. Pourtant, en depit de son vif succes aupres des consommateurs, le low cost alimente souvent la critique et le soupcon, accuse notamment de sacrifier la qualite des produits et l'emploi sur l'autel du bas prix. Ce livre pose un regard analytique sur le low cost, en prenant appui sur les etudes economiques les plus recentes, notamment dans le transport aerien. Comment definir le low cost et le distinguer d'autres modeles economiques ? Comment fonctionne ce modele dans l'aerien ? Le low cost est-il toujours synonyme de prix bas ? Dans quelle mesure le low cost aerien est-il un nouveau vecteur de concurrence, qui vient bousculer les strategies des operateurs installes ? L'ouvrage aborde egalement les controverses actuelles sur le low cost, sur la qualite des produits et sur l'emploi.
