ResumeDans La legende d’Isis et d’Osiris ecrite par Plutarque au debut du IIe siecle, deux chapitres sont particulierement originaux et se singularisent par un developpement sur le cadre geographique, inhabituel chez cet auteur. L’analyse des composantes de ce recit fournit une serie d’elements authentiques qui permettent de le localiser au Liban, a Byblos meme, et de reconstruire un recit etiologique local centre sur le cedre. Ces deux chapitres se rattachent donc a une longue tradition proche-orientale et egyptienne vantant l’origine divine de ces arbres et leur place dans l’economie locale.
