Abstract

Zhecho Chankov is an example of a person who has dedicated his life to geography and who has contributed a lot to its consolidation and popularization in Bulgaria. He has also contributed greatly to the foundation and organizational consolidation of the Bulgarian geographical society. He is the author of the first monograph on the population of Bulgaria and the author of geography dictionaries and textbooks. Chankov is one of the greatest donators of Dobri Voynikov chitalishte in his hometown Shoumen. Because of his professional, academic and social work he should be considered one of the most prominent Bulgarian geographers from the first half of the 20th century.
