Depuislors,le modeledeslogiciels libres a fait son chemin, et les auteurs'd'un petit ouvrage a succes en evaluaient recemment le nombre a 70 000. Meme si le concept de logiciel libre continue a relever d'une certaine philosophie, ou du moins d'un certain ideal danslequel chercheurs,developpeursetutilisateurs acceptent de mettre en commun leurs connaissanceset leurs travaux pour faire progresser des outils utiles a tous, le logiciel libre est devenu une realite economique qui interessela recherche,l'enseignement, la bureautique, les mondes de l'Internet, des jeux, du son et de l'image. Le monde industriel, tou- jours prudent dans ses choix, est egalement venu aux logiciels libres, et beaucoupd'entreprises ont trouve dans le logiciel libre le moyen d'acceder a de nouveaux e
