The Idealist Origins of Postmodern Colonial Studies: The Early Work of Walter Mignolo

Abstract

El presente articulo repasa, desde una perspectiva critica y teorica, la 'semiotica de Cultura' que el destacado colonialista Walter Mignolo construyo en sus primeras obras. Estas combinan el estructuralismo clasico, que promueve un acercamiento objetivo a la literatura, con su contrapunto invertido e igualmente positivista, la hermeneutica, en la cual se destaca el papel del sujeto. Ambos proyectos se derrumban cuando tropiezan con la existencia de una 'ideologia' totalmente abarcadora. Su subyacente idealismo neo-kantiano ahistorico secretamente alienta a una 'resistencia a la teoria', basada en una falsa filosofia de la ciencia. Comparamos en todo momento al idealismo neo-kantiano con el realismo critico del marxismo Althusseriano, desde el cual se teoriza la nocion de un 'inconsciente ideologico'. Segun este, tal cual lo expone el teorico marxista, Juan Carlos Rodriguez, no todos los discursos ideologicos funcionan, historicamente, a traves de la categoria del sujeto. La epopeya, el ensayo y la autobiografia sirven para ilustrar y contrastar los distintos acercamientos criticos que estamos analizando.
