La educación como generadora de movilidad social: pobreza y desigualdad social en la narrativa de los escritores radicales costarricenses (1900–1935)

Abstract

A finales de la década de 1920 e inicios de la década de 1930 estallaron en Costa Rica varios movimientos obreros debido a la grave crisis económica que experimentaba el país y que afectó más duramente a las clases sociales bajas. En este contexto, se consolida un nuevo núcleo generacional, los ‘intelectuales radicales’, cuyas producciones literarias evidencian la presencia de propuestas ideológicas tales como el socialismo, el acratismo y el anarquismo. En este artículo se analiza una selección de la narrativa publicada por tres intelectuales radicales costarricenses: Joaquín García Monge, Omar Dengo y Carmen Lyra, con el fin de profundizar en las representaciones de la pobreza como generadora de desigualdad social, en este particular contexto socio-económico.
