Este articulo explora los mitos acuaticos andinos (en la obra de Jose Maria Arguedas, Gamaliel Churata y Felix Huaman Cabrera) que se relacionan con la creacion artistica, para buscar correspondencias y/o diferencias con los mitos musicales occidentales. Los mitos andinos hablan de la musica oculta en los manantiales como un secreto que se transmite a traves de un pacto del hombre con la naturaleza, y mediante personajes como el sirena o Serena o el wamani, que son seres a la vez temibles y fecundos. La musica, pues, pertenece al mundo de abajo, y se encuentra en estrecha relacion con divinidades de lo oscuro.
