IGUALDADE RACIAL

Abstract

Neste capítulo serão abordados, especialmente, os efeitos desiguais da pandemia sobre negros e brancos, considerando, evidentemente, as intersecções com os marcadores de gênero e classe das populações. Para uma análise dessa natureza, é preciso reconhecer e considerar, antes de mais nada, as condições estruturais de maior vulnerabilidade a que o povo negro brasileiro se encontra submetido nas mais diversas áreas da vida social e cotidiana, desde as desigualdades no âmbito educacional e do trabalho, até as desigualdades de acesso a serviços de saneamento básico, de saúde e à violência que atinge essa população com muito mais intensidade. É este cenário de racismo estrutural – e não aspectos da biologia destes grupos – que torna a população negra particularmente vulnerável à pandemia da Covid-19, seja no que se refere aos efeitos em termos de saúde (morbimortalidade), seja no que diz respeito aos efeitos econômicos, os quais podem também resultar em mortalidade pela fome, pela pobreza e pela falta de acesso a condições mínimas de garantia da vida.
