A LIGNINA NA ALIMENTAÇÃO DE RUMINANTES

Abstract

A lignina, um dos principais componentes da parede celular vegetal, desempenha um papel central na nutrição de ruminantes devido à sua resistência à degradação microbiana no rúmen. Este capítulo discute a estrutura complexa e heterogênea da lignina, composta por unidades fenólicas interligadas, que conferem rigidez às plantas e dificultam a digestão dos polissacarídeos estruturais. Analisam-se os fatores que influenciam o teor de lignina em forrageiras, como estágio de maturação, parte da planta, espécie e condições ambientais, além das diferenças estruturais da lignina entre gramíneas e leguminosas. Aborda-se também o uso da lignina como marcador interno de digestibilidade em estudos de nutrição animal, destacando suas vantagens e limitações. Ao aprofundar a compreensão sobre a lignina, suas implicações e possibilidades de manejo, este capítulo busca fornecer subsídios para otimizar a utilização de forragens em sistemas de produção de ruminantes, conciliando eficiência nutricional e sustentabilidade.
