ABSTRACT Electronic components and assemblies become more and more sensitive on electrostatic charges and fields. Till this day, one has been believed that electronic components become insensitive on ESD because of the integration of protected circuits. In fact, dimensions will be smaller and protected circuits cannot protect them completely. Many manufacturers have introduced some ESD measures believing in having solved all ESD problems without any further activities. This is a mistake! Additional developments of electronic components and assemblies always discover new risk sources for electrostatic charges shown by many malfunctions caused by ESD during the last years.
