Abstract

Este ensayo propone una lectura de la novela Señales que precederán al fin del mundo (2009), del escritor mexicano Yuri Herrera (Actopan, Hidalgo, 1970), ampliando la perspectiva que la crítica especializada ha marcado hasta el momento. Esta pone el acento en la violencia desatada en el sexenio 2006-2012 y la semejanza de la historia de Makina, su protagonista, con el viaje al Mictlán, la región de los muertos en la cosmogonía mexica. Recuperando algunas nociones sobre la liminalidad en el pensamiento, la literatura y la experiencia de los países “posoccidentalizados” (Homi K. Bhabha, Walter Mignolo, entre otros), este trabajo analizará el paso que hace el personaje de México a Estados Unidos, no solo como reconocimiento de dichas temáticas, sino por un valor literario que radica en los intersticios. Dicho fenómeno puede evidenciarse tanto en los territorios que Makina recorre como en los diálogos que establece con los demás personajes. De esta manera, el concepto de lo “inframundano” cobrará otro significado en la novela, más como umbral transformador que como lugar de condena o destino.
