Abstract

Los trabajos que reúne esta obra abordan, desde diferentes perspectivas, el estudio de las representaciones de lo musulmán, en general, y de lo turquesco, en particular, en la América virreinal, como parte de un mismo proceso incardinado en las problemáticas históricas, ideológicas, religiosas y estéticas de la Monarquía Hispánica. La presencia de “moros” o “turcos” tanto en las artes visuales como en las prácticas festivas o performativas evidencian, por un lado, una fuerte relación entre las sociedades hispanoamericanas y los acontecimientos militares coetáneos que se desarrollaron en Europa o el Mediterráneo, al margen de distancias. Por otro lado, su evolución aquilata la idea de que no hay un “otro” musulmán sino una variedad de invenciones o ficciones de lo musulmán.
