Abstract

Introducción: la población geriátrica se incrementa en todo el mundo, en esta edad el organismo pierde capacidad de respuesta por los cambios fisiológicos, por lo que aumenta los riesgos de una intervención quirúrgica en esos pacientes. Objetivo: describir las complicaciones cardiovasculares trans y postoperatoria en pacientes geriátricos operados en el Hospital Provincial General Docente de Riobamba, durante el periodo 2018-2019. Metodología: investigación no experimental descriptiva transversal con enfoque cuantitativo. La población estuvo constituida por la totalidad de 257 historias clínicas de adultos mayores intervenidos quirúrgicamente, quedando una muestra de 207 pacientes mediante procedimiento aleatorio simple. Resultados: predominio de pacientes con edad entre 65 y 70 años (57%), los de género masculino (52,67%) y aquellos con comorbilidades (81,64%). El 54,11% fue intervenido de urgencia, el 72,95% tuvo un tiempo quirúrgico mayor que dos horas y el 93,24% requirió anestesia general. Conclusiones: las complicaciones cardiovasculares y las que ocurrieron durante transoperatorio resultaron más frecuentes. Los pacientes con más edad y presencia de comorbilidades tuvieron mayor incidencia en el desarrollo de complicaciones cardiovasculares asociadas con los procedimientos quirúrgicos.
