Abstract

Esta pesquisa buscou compreender o que motiva o microempreendedor individual (MEI) do município de São Cristóvão (SE) a permanecer ou sair da informalidade. Sendo assim, esta pesquisa se caracteriza como descritiva qualitativa, tendo sido conduzida por meio de estudo de casos múltiplos, pois busca conhecer o comportamento empreendedor a partir do seu ponto de vista, oferecendo uma melhor compreensão do fenômeno estudado. Nessa direção, a coleta de dados se deu por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas com 30 microempreendedores individuais selecionados de acordo com os critérios pré-estabelecidos, sendo destes, quinze informais e quinze já formalizados. Os casos foram analisados de forma individual e comparativa a partir dos conteúdos auferidas na pesquisa de campo. Verificou-se que o principal fator que leva o MEI a empreender é a falta de emprego e a necessidade de aumentar sua renda, bem como o desejo de independência e de maior liberdade profissional. Nota-se ainda, que a falta de informação é o principal fator influenciador para que os microempreendedores permaneçam na informalidade. Por outro lado, constatou-se que a cobertura previdenciária é a principal motivação para que decidam migrar para a formalidade.
