Abstract

Una mañana de 1982, interesada en saber cómo los anarquistas entendían el "amor libre", fui a investigar a la Biblioteca Nacional de Rio de Janeiro, donde me encontré con la siguiente indicación en el fichero: "amor libre - véase prostitución". Descubrí así que la prostitución tenía una historia, a pesar de ser considerada "la profesión más antigua del mundo", y que mucho de esa historia había sido hecho no sólo por los personajes característicos del mundo bohemio —prostitutas, "matronas", gigolós, clientes-, sino también por los médicos higienistas y criminólogos, autores de innumerables tesis y tratados científicos sobre las "perversiones sexuales" y la sexualidad en general.
