Abstract

Diabetes melitus merupakan penyakit gangguan metabolik yang disebabkan oleh gagalnya organ pankreas dalam memproduksi hormon insulin secara memadai. Terapi farmakologi diabetes melitus saat ini masih terbatas pada penggunaan obat-obatan seperti hipoglikemik oral (OHO) dan masyarakat yang menderita diabetes sebagian besar melakukan swamedikasi dengan obat tradisonal yang digunakan bersamaan dengan obat antidiabetes sintesis. Salah satu contoh tanaman yang dapat menurunkan kadar glukosa darah adalah daun benalu duku dan daun sukun yang memiliki kandungan flavonoid untuk menurunkan glukosa darah dengan cara meningkatkan sensitivitas sel terhadap insulin dan merangsang pelepasan insulin pada sel β pancreas. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah untuk memberikan edukasi kepada pasien rawat jalan di RSU Sembiring Deli Tua tentang obat antidiabetes yang berasal dari bahan alam yaitu daun benalu duku dan daun sukun. Setelah mengikuti kegiatan ini peserta memiliki pengetahuan yang baru tentang cara pengolahan bahan alam seperti daun benalu duku dan daun sukun sebagai terapi pengobatan diabetes melitus yang aman dan efektif
