Abstract

Brejos de altitude são áreas de exceção climato-edáfico-ecológicas inseridas no domínio semiárido do Nordeste do Brasil, apresentando uma variação paisagística bastante expressiva. Suas peculiaridades mesológicas, quando comparados com o entorno e entre si, têm despertado o interesse de pesquisadores tanto para fins de caracterização quanto de planejamento, uma vez que essas áreas possuem valor ambiental e econômico expressivos no contexto semiárido brasileiro. Neste sentido, o objetivo desse trabalho é reunir e discutir as principais características fisiográficas já estabelecidas para os brejos de altitude. Foram consultados periódicos, teses, dissertações, livros e relatórios técnicos que se propuseram a definir e caracterizar os brejos de altitude nordestinos. Ao final, foi possível contabilizar um total de 10 áreas classificadas como enclaves, bem como definir os atributos fisiográficos que as definem. Essas características geraram um quadro síntese que permitiu a realização de uma análise comparativa a partir dos elementos descritivos identificados em cada obra consultada.
