Kata kunci: lintah, bioindikator, detergen, toksisitasABSTRACT Leech (Hirudo medicinalis) is one of the macroinvertebrates/ macrozoobentos that can be used as a bio-indicator of fresh water. However, the research conducted by utilizing leeches as bio-indicators of pollution in freshwater are caused by pollutants from detergents have not been done. The purpose of this research is to know the detergent toxicity to the leech (Hirudo medicinalis). This study used a complete randomized design model (RAL) with 5 replications. The treatments consisted of 7 different detergent concentrations of 0 ppm, 100 ppm, 110 ppm, 120 ppm, 130 ppm, 140 ppm, and 150 ppm. Each research unit has 12 research subunits so that there are 420 research subunits. The results showed that variation of detergent concentration had significant effect to the leech mortality (P<0,05). Therefore, detergent is toxic to leech (Hirudo medicinalis). It means the abundances of leeches in freshwater can be used as bioindicators of water pollution, especially by detergent pollutants. Keywords: Leech, detergent, bioindicator, toxicity
