Licenciamento Ambiental de Grandes Empreendimentos Minerários

Abstract

Inspirado pela tragédia causada pelo rompimento da barragem de Fundão em Mariana – ocorrida em novembro de 2015 - e seus danos ao longo do vale do rio Doce, este artigo tem por objetivo evidenciar o conjunto de falhas na construção do processo de licenciamento de grandes empreendimentos minerários no Brasil e em Minas Gerais. Neste sentido, é apresentado um estudo de caráter descritivo e exploratório que tem por metodologia o diálogo entre bibliografia especializada, as experiências profissionais dos autores em diversos projetos de licenciamento ambiental e as observações de campo realizadas em expedição ao longo do rio Doce 15 dias após a tragédia. Como resultado, verificou-se que diversos aspectos que hoje são apontados pela grande mídia como falhas graves nos processos de licenciamento ambiental já vinham sendo alarmados pela academia sem a devida contrapartida governamental e civil.
