El principio de inmanencia como fundamento de la epistemología semiótica

Abstract

En este trabajo se muestra cómo la inmanencia es el principal objeto teórico que la semiótica importa del estructuralismo y cómo el hecho de cuestionar el concepto de inmanencia en semiótica —como se ha hecho a menudo últimamente— significa cuestionar no sólo la idea de estructura sino, más en profundidad, la epistemología semiótica misma. Se parte del punto de vista hjelmsleviano con la intención de ir más allá de ciertos lugares comunes relacionados con la triada inmanencia/transcendencia/ manifestación. Asimismo, se muestra cómo todas las críticas que se han hecho en fechas recientes en cuanto al concepto de inmanencia son en realidad críticas dirigidas a un particular modo de pensar la inmanencia, derivado de la semiótica generativa y que representa un malentendido del pensamiento de los padres fundadores del estructuralismo. Se propone en seguida una relectura de algunos puntos saussureanos y hjelmslevianos sobre la idea de inmanencia que le permiten al autor formular una concepción de la estructura como entidad heterónoma de dependencias internas y externas. Y, finalmente, se ofrecen algunas conclusiones sobre este recorrido, intentando demostrar cómo una idea de estructura formulada de esta manera permite integrar el modelo fontanilleano de los planos de inmanencia.
