Respuesta productiva del pasto kikuyo (Kikuyuocloa clandestina) al fertilizante nitrogenado de lenta liberación

Abstract

El sector lechero costarricense se caracteriza por tener sistemas de producción intensivos que dependen de la producción de biomasa para alimentar a las vacas lecheras; por lo que se aplican grandes cantidades de nitrógeno. Debido al costo incremental de los mismos se requiere evaluar nuevas fuentes nitrogenadas, como los de lenta liberación, que podrían presentar ventajas para los productores. Por esta razón se evaluó la respuesta productiva del pasto kikuyo a la aplicación de una fuente nitrogenada de lenta liberación en un sistema de producción de lechería especializada y se comparó con la obtenida con un fertilizante nitrogenado comercial convencional. Los resultados mostraron que el promedio anual de la disponibilidad de la materia seca obtenida con el fertilizante de lenta liberación, comparado con la lograda con el fertilizante nitrogenado comercial convencional, fue similar a lo largo del período evaluado (2,22±0,34 tMS ha-1 con fertilizante de lenta liberación contra 2,59±0,23 tMS ha-1 con fertilizante convencional). Sin embargo, hubo variaciones estacionales importantes con cada uno de los fertilizantes evaluados. La calidad nutritiva de la pastura no se afectó por el uso del fertilizante delenta liberación. Palabras clave: sistemas de producción de leche, fertilizante nitrogenado de lenta liberación,fertilizante convencional.
