Abstract

La ortodoncia contemporánea tiene como objetivos establecer función, estética, estabilidad e integridad de los tejidos de soporte, el ortodoncista obtiene estos objetivos a través de los conocimientos, filosofías, mecánicas o formas de tratamiento. A través de la ciencia y la tecnología, se ha logrado complementar al tratamiento usual, mejoras para la comodidad y el bienestar del paciente, una de estas mejoras ha sido el movimiento dental acelerado, cuya ventaja es reducir el tiempo del tratamiento ortodóntico, escapando a la incomodidad estética, la limitación en la dieta y en la limpieza bucal, lo que significaría reducir el riesgo de caries o enfermedad periodontal.Existen en la actualidad diversos tratamientos para la aceleración del movimiento dental en la ortodoncia, así las corticotomí as, fármacos etc,que en algunos casos tienen efectos secundarios y son considerados tratamientos invasivos Sin embargo, el AcceleDent®, sistema de microvibraciones es uno de los métodos más eficaces y poco invasivos que existen para acelerar el movimiento de los dientes. Nuestro objetivo es describir la evidencia científica actual de los inicios del AcceleDent®, eficacia, ventajas y desventajas, con la expectativa de poder indicar su uso en futuros tratamientos con resultados óptimos reduciendo el tiempo de tratamiento incomodidades y riesgos.
