El poder de los medios/los medios del poder

Abstract

“Hay que cesar de describir siempre los efectos de poder en términos negativos (...)De hecho, el poder produce;produce realidad;produce ámbitos de objetos y rituales de verdad”. Michel Foucault - “Vigilar y Castigar” Este trabajo surge de una relectura de “Vigilar y Castigar” y responde a la inquietud de trazar ciertos vínculos entre la concepción del poder que allí desarrolla Michel Foucault y la reflexión teórica sobre el poder de los medios masivos de comunicación. La inquietud, a su vez, es producto de un doble estímulo. De un lado, la cuestión del poder está presente en las primeras teorías de la comunicación. Asoma con nitidez en la corriente funcionalistay la llamada “communication research” pero es también perceptible, con los matices del caso, en la Teoría Crítica acuñada en el seno de la Escuela de Frankfurt. Asume diversas formas a través de modelos que remiten a una evolución temporal como a la coexistencia de distintos espacios teóricos, algunos de los cuales plantean un diálogo o exhiben zonas de contacto con los textos de Foucault.
