Abstract

Este trabajo analiza la sensibilidad de la Balanza Comercial ecuatoriana a diferentes shocks externos, cambios en los precios del petróleo, apreciación del dólar y caída de la demanda internacional. Se encontró que un escenario negativo empeoraría de manera importante la Balanza Comercial, cuyo saldo alcanzaría los -3.638 millones de dólares al final del año 2016. Los resultados muestran que solo el precio del petróleo y la apreciación del dólar tendrán impactos significativos. El precio del petróleo tiene un impacto directo sobre las exportaciones petroleras, las cuales seguirían cayendo el próximo año en el escenario negativo. Las exportaciones no petroleras también bajarían bajo el escenario negativo, lo que se explica por la apreciación del dólar y por el impacto negativo que tiene una caída del precio del petróleo sobre el crecimiento económico del país, lo que implica una subida de los impuestos y una reducción de la capacidad exportadora de las empresas. Además, las salvaguardias, al acabarse en junio del 2016, subirían las importaciones nuevamente y empeorarían la Balanza Comercial. Si se considera un shock externo positivo, se observa que la Balanza Comercial pasaría a positivo, con un saldo positivo de 85 millones de dólares en el año 2016.
